When she was little, all she wanted to do was put on her princess dress, and twirl around the room, mostly by standing on her father’s feet while he did the twirling. From a young age, her family felt she was destined to be on stage, performing. She took ballet all throughout elementary and middle school. Private lessons. Summer camps to learn specialized techniques. No Expense was spared. She went to an arts magnet high school and performed in several recitals and plays.
Decisions came. Julliard? Local College? Europe? She had studied hard, and it showed. Her other grades weren’t top tier, but she excelled in the fluidity of body mechanics. She applied… Europe said no, but Julliard said yes.
It was going to be expensive, but her coaches believed she was good enough to succeed. Her parents took out a second mortgage on the house. In order to keep her scholarships, she would have to keep her grades up. More so than before. She studied. Her performance classes were tough, but she excelled. The others, however? Well, that was a different story. She might not have enough scholarships to get through next year.
At the end of the year, she applied to many jobs: theatre assistant, box office, even janitor. She got several, but it was a lot of time taken from what she loved, dancing.
She made up her mind. Unless it was performing, the job was not worth it. She was going to be a great performer, and every step had to be with that goal in mind.
More applications and interviews. Finally, she got a job performing.
“Hey baby,” she purred. “Wanna dance? My name is Destiny.”
